Inflection is here
After an autumn of daytime jobs, travel and physical activity rather than geeky, music making. December finally dropped some free time and inspiration. Those who have been following me from my first attempts at Max programming (Macro Modulator) through the Jazzmutant co-operation (DyNAmic), know that I have a crush on Ms. Step Sequencer. Notes, pitches, but most of all - modulation - arranged over time, in a grid of some sort. Lovingly inspired by the work of Elektron.
So, here comes Inflection. A Max for Live device being controlled by Novation Launchpad. Rubbery buttons. Shiny LEDs. Plenty of patch cords.
The patch itself is still in some sort of pre-release-state, but those of you daring enough can download it here. Don’t count on any amounts of support. My focus is on improving and getting rid of quirks. So any reports of oddities are most welcome.
There are a number of things that you should know before trying it out. It only works on track 1, it assumes Launchpad is first in your list of control surfaces, settings are not saved from session to session, it has no preset/patch storing capability. You’ll probably discover more.
As of now, I just use it to play around and record any useful pattern to audio. Hope it’ll bring a smile to your face as well. Now - have a look at the video!

Thanx man, what an incredibly refreshing approach you got here.
I very much like the logic of the interface and the
`pitchlinking´ of your synth/keyboard to the steps.
Works like a charm, excellent stuff!
Best,

Thanks dude, This looks awesome!! had a little play with it last night and cannot get LED feedback to the launchpad. not sure what i am doing wrong? any help???
Are you using the Live set that I posted? Have you changed anything? Is your LP the first control surface in LIve’s preferences? Mail me at c.m.bjork[at]gmail[dot]com if you can’t get it straight.
Thanks this is very cool! Can wait to see it evolve!!!

Hey LoFi, good to see you back an track!
nice device! …as usual if you lay your hands on something
Did I get it right that it only sends 1 tone each step?
G*Mat
Yeah. Monophonic, Mat.
Hy Lofi the Patch is awesome, does it works only on launchpad?
Are you planing to port this to Lemur or APC?
Anyway the Patch is Great!
thx Jannis
Jannis. I’m not with lemur anymore - so that probably won’t happen. But why don’t you port it yourself? That’s quite allright as long as credit is given where credit is due. Maybe there’ll be an APC option in the future. Right now Inflection is at rest while I’m working on something else.
Im not in to max or m4l but when i have a little time i would love to give it a try!
Maybe this will be my first max Project i hope i have a chance to get it done, will see
I like the idea of the sequencer so much, but im a m4l noob,
Will give it a try, will see!
thx for giving your ok to try to work on it,
and for your beautiful patches two!
Jannis
Thanks so much for the patch and video! I have the sequencer part of it working, but I can’t get it to pick up and control macros.
I am using a built-in Live instrument with 8 macros, I click “Fill buffer” in Inflection’s manual mode, but when it comes to running it, Inflection’s macro slots aren’t linked to the instrument. I can’t open the sample project because of a version difference, is there anything special I need to do to wire them together? Inflection’s macro control lights and what not work, it’s just not displaying the macro names or changing their values.
Thanks!
Are you on track 1? Is the Live instrument/rack the first device after Inflection?
Did you switch to “sequencer control”? What version of Live & M4L are you on?
Ah, yep, not in track 1. Sorry about that! Thanks again for a fun patch! I look forward to seeing what else you cook up.
